The Mattress Industry's New Hybrid...Image

The mattress industry is a highly competitive one, and it's not easy to make products stand out from a sea of others. Bedhead Marketing is always looking for creative ways using existing and innovative graphic technologies to achieve this differentiation. We recently were inspired to begin production on cinemagraphs, a decade-old solution for bringing life to a static image.

What is a Cinemagraph?

A Cinemagraph is a hybrid image between a still photo and a video. They are GIF images that contain within them a continuous motion, giving the illusion of a video clip. They were first introduced by Kevin Burg and Jamie Beck in early 2011, and have since gained popularity as a means of marketing and advertising.

Mattress Cinemagraphs are effective because they are eye-catching and attention-grabbing, while also being short and easy to consume. They are ideal for social media, where users are often scrolling quickly through their feeds. But there are also several other use cases like: website, emails (can utilize animated gifs), online ads, presentations & pitch decks, and even in-store digital POP.

Why are these effective?

There are several reasons why moving images are an effective way to promote mattresses. First, they capture attention more effectively than static images or text. People are more likely to notice a moving image, and the movement can help to draw the eye to key features of the product.

One of the most basic psychological principles is that people tend to notice movement in images. This evolutionary trait exists in humans because our brains are wired to pay attention to anything that is moving, as it could potentially be a threat or something else that requires our attention. This is why advertisers often use moving images or flashing lights to get our attention; they know that we are more likely to notice these things than we are static images.

Moving images can help create an emotional connection with viewers. A well-done animation can tell a story that speaks to the viewer on an emotional level, and this can be very effective in getting people to remember a brand or product.

Moving images are also more shareable than static content. People are more likely to share a video than they are to share a static image, and this can help to spread the word about a product or brand.

Who should use cinemagraphs?

Companies that are looking to create successful marketing and advertising campaigns should consider using cinemagraphs as part of their image asset strategy.
